The Argentine Bioinformatics platform (BIA) aims to provide bioinformatic services to the National Scientific System, public Organisms and public and private companies from different economical sectors within a regional and international scope.

BIA is directed and managed by a multidisciplinary team with a well-established scientific and professional career, wide knowledge in the field of bioinformatics, strong commitment to the presented project and a strategic articulation with several Institutions.

Development of biological databases and web applications for query and visualization.

The Biological Databases Node at UNSAM has a strong track record in the development of biological and chemical databases to support research and development. The group has developed the TDR Targets database for drug discovery in neglected tropical diseases and the TcSNP database, which constitutes the first genetic map at genome scale for Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas Disease. The Biological Databases Node offers consulting and development services in all areas related to the design and development of relational databases, data loading pipelines and dedicated web applications (business logic) to support research and development in the life sciences. The node works in partnership with other nodes of BIA to provide integrated end-to-end solutions that require more diverse sets of expertise and/or access to installed computing infrastructure.

Analysis of structure and function of biomolecules and drug and protein rational design

The Structural Bioinformatics node is located at the School of Sciences, University of Buenos Aires. The node has acquired in the last years a considerable expertise in development, and use of computer simulation tools in the area of the connection between biomolecules structure and funcion. Specifically, we employ classical methodologies to predict structural and dynamical properties as well as biomolecule-biomolecule and biomolecule-drug interactions. We have also experience in the prediction of enzyme mechanisms by means of hybrid quantum-classical (QM-MM) simulation tools. The node skills are highly complementary with those offered by the other BIA nodes.
